Pharmacy Technician Schools in Georgia

The pharmacy technician schools in Georgia are located throughout the state. The schools that offer the program are in Atlanta, Dublin, and Jonesboro to name a few. If you want to attend a school that has a technician program specifically designed for pharmaceutical medicines and procedures, you man select Atlanta Technical College, Central Georgia Technical College or Albany Technical College. The schools’ programs are pharmacy assistant and pharmacy technician which have the same training and courses.

The Requirements for Admissions

The prospective student must first be at least eighteen years of age to qualify for admissions to a technical college. A high school diploma or GED is a requirement. The students can’t have any felony convictions within the last five years to enter selected schools. Entrance tests in Math and English is given before the student is admitted.

Requirements during Training Program

All students who are admitted are required to maintain at least a 2.0 grade point average if they want to complete the training course. The student must complete 33 hours of technical courses to receive their certificate diploma at the Atlanta Technical College. There are nine courses including Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Calculation, Mathematics, Medical Terminology, Computers, Pharmacy Technology, Anatomy and Physiology, Medicine Dispensation and Pharmacy Assistant. The schools require the students to maintain a C average in each course.

Georgia is one of those U.S. states that employ thousands of pharmacy technicians. In May 2012 the strength of employment was approximately 9,000 through 31,000 (U.S. Dept. of Labor). The pay is above satisfactory with a yearly mean wage up to about $28,000.

The positive thing about completing the training program is that the student has the option to further their education. The student may attend a four year university or college and pursue a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and certifications. Obtaining a certificate as a pharmacy technician is a new beginning for those seeking higher pay and a promising career. The knowledge the students gain during training can be used in everyday life when it comes to caring for others on the job and in the home.
