Allied Health Schools in Oklahoma

Oklahoma is located in the South Central United States.  Oklahoma was the 46th state to enter the Union.  This state has one of the fastest growing economies nationally. The University of Central Oklahoma, University of Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State University are the largest public universities in the state.  Oklahoma lies in the center of what is considered to be the Great Plains and is full of forests, mountain ranges, and prairies.  It is nicknamed as the “Sooner State” and the state flower is Mistletoe.  According to the US Census Bureau the population of the state was 3,791,508 and the average median age is 36.2.

Positions in the Allied Health Field are very complementary to doctors, nurses, and other types of health care providers.  These professions provide ranges of technical, direct patient care, support and diagnostic services which are crucial to the patients they serve as well as the other professionals they work with.  Most degree programs require a minimum of 62 to 65 total credit hours to achieve a degree.

Students who want to pursue a career in the Allied Health Field will develop the following skill sets:

  • Education of groups and individuals about certain health concerns.
  • Promotion of health and wellness through diet and exercise.
  • Offers patient motivation and are sensitive to their needs.
  • Have the ability to access symptoms, record progress, reactions, and observations.
  • Helping individuals who possess physical, mental, developmental, and emotional conditions to recover and to develop the skills for daily living.
  • Learn how to address health problems and accessing the concerns of the communities.
  • Ability to use relaxation, measurement, and awareness to aid in reducing stress.
  • Knows the preventions and causes of diseases.
  • Helping individuals as well as groups learn the skills necessary to improve and maintain their health.
